Yemanja Values

Origins & history

A pioneer in its field in Switzerland since 1995, and after more than 25 years of commitment, let’s take a look back at the beginnings of the brand and the development of its cosmetics and skincare rituals.

The foundation

It was in 1995 that Teresa founded the first Yemanja care institute in La Chaux-de-Fonds. From the beginning, convinced of their benefits, she proposed traditional treatments integrating her Brazilian origins, in particular by producing herself certain cosmetic products used in her treatments.

Indeed, her grandmother, an Amazonian Indian, passed on to her her extensive knowledge of herbs and ancestral plants. The name ‘Yemanja’ designates a Brazilian deity (with African origins), mother of the deities of nature and queen of the aquatic world.

Teresa thus applies all her care while staying connected to her intuition and making good use of her unusual knowledge. It is in respect of its origins and by maintaining its philosophy of natural care that the foundations of the company are laid.

Respect for personality, nature and a holistic approach are the values that are still conveyed by Yemanja to this day.

The development

It is Kamila, daughter of Teresa, who will really develop the Yemanja brand, beginning in 2010. Always listening to others and working with her mother and the clients of the Yemanja Institute, Kamila realizes that there are many criteria that need to be met in order to provide quality care: good technical and social skills from the caregiver, as well as the highest quality cosmetic products.

Enriched with knowledge in natural care and human and environmental values, and benefiting in turn from the transmission of the family heritage, Kamila is inspired by all these elements and decides to open the Yemanja School and also to open in parallel the Yemanja cosmetics line, initially intended for the clients of the Institute.

Her reasoning is simple: convinced of the benefits of the care provided by her mother, as well as the importance of respecting others and the environment, she can’t find any cosmetic products that meet her expectations in shops. Similarly, she does not find a care curriculum that integrates all the technical, social and environmental dimensions of learning, key elements in her eyes that should go hand in hand.

It is therefore quite natural for her to develop these elements herself, so that the greatest number of people can benefit from them.

The expansion

In 2018, Kamila met Cleo, who comes from the field of industrial and product design.

Cleo is very quickly won over by the values, quality and authenticity of the Yemanja universe, which are at opposite ends of the field in which she was working at the time. They both get along very well, and it does not take long before Cleo joins the adventure !

This is the start of a precious and unusual association for everyone, an association that will allow them to develop Yemanja well beyond the La Chaux-de-Fonds institute.

Together, they open Les Cosmétiques Yemanja to the general public, redefining and shaking up the codes of high-end cosmetics. Yemanja asserts itself today as a precious, singular and committed product.

Teresa, Kamila and Cléo continue their commitment to deploy the Yemanja quality by offering customers and professionals authentic products and services that respect people and their environment.
